Etienne Gehain

Council Member

Etienne is a council member of the Energy Web Foundation. He is also digital innovation officer and Group spokesman for digital issues at Engie, formerly known as GDF SUEZ, where he is in charge of bringing digital technologies, including blockchain, to the Group’s business units in order to develop new products and services.

As head of corporate R&D programs for digital and energy storage for the past 6 years, he has funded—and followed—tests and proof of concepts on blockchain technologies within Engie. In 2017, he joined Engie Fab, a new entity developing disruptive offers based on digital technologies. As their chief technology officer, he specified their digital platform, and contributed to offers in the fields of energy communities and green mobility.

Prior to Engie, Etienne spent more than 10 years in R&D at Gaz de France, studying the use of natural gas in fuels cells and coordinating a European FP6 collaborative project on the insertion of distributed energy resources in electricity grids (EU-DEEP).

Etienne earned a PhD in electrochemistry at Middlesex University (London).

As attorney-at-law and public notary, Patrick is the owner of PST legal & consulting in Zug, a law firm specializing in Swiss and international tax law, corporate law, commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, structuring and re-structuring of national and international businesses, the relocation of companies and individuals, and advising on legal issues for blockchain companies.

Patrick has previously worked as an administrative judge at the canton court of Zug and with one of the “big four” auditing companies in Zurich. He studied law in Zurich before taking the legal and notarial examinations in Canton Zug, as well as spending a year working in a law firm in New York. He speaks German, English, and French.
