ABOUT

Etienne Gehain

Etienne is a council member of the Energy Web Foundation. He is also digital innovation officer and Group spokesman for digital issues at Engie, formerly known as GDF SUEZ, where he is in charge of bringing digital technologies, including blockchain, to the Group’s business units in order to develop new products and services.

As head of corporate R&D programs for digital and energy storage for the past 6 years, he has funded—and followed—tests and proof of concepts on blockchain technologies within Engie. In 2017, he joined Engie Fab, a new entity developing disruptive offers based on digital technologies. As their chief technology officer, he specified their digital platform, and contributed to offers in the fields of energy communities and green mobility.

Prior to Engie, Etienne spent more than 10 years in R&D at Gaz de France, studying the use of natural gas in fuels cells and coordinating a European FP6 collaborative project on the insertion of distributed energy resources in electricity grids (EU-DEEP).

Etienne earned a PhD in electrochemistry at Middlesex University (London).

The Energy Web is accelerating a low-carbon, customer-centric electricity system by unleashing the potential of blockchain and other decentralized technologies.
